Bachelor's Degree Major: Applied Psychology

Combining the advantages of a liberal arts degree in psychology with the development of practical skills.
A key way in which students learn and apply these skills is during the required 12 credits of internship experiences. This extensive internship is the major difference between the applied psychology major and other psychology programs. A recent Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article, "Internships Great for Students Seeking Work and Experience" (McKay, 13 June 2004), details some of the advantages of internships for students.

The B.A. in applied psychology prepares students for a variety of government, social service, research, business, and industry occupations, and is also suitable for students who are interested in graduate or professional school.

Students can continue in their studies of psychology in graduate school, or in graduate or professional school in business, human services, law, or the social sciences.
