In 2006-2007, faculty members explored and reflected on various aspects of India's history, culture, and economic, social, and political reality. Course lectures, student research projects, service learning activities, theater productions, art exhibits, films and guest lectures helped us learn about this increasingly important area of the world that is home to one billion people.

Teaching India 2006-2007 was launched with the first-year student common readings. We chose one short story, "A Real Durwan," by Jhumpa Lahiri, and one nonfiction article, "India at Five-O," by Salman Rushdie, that introduced students to some of the issues cited above.
