The J. Clarence Kelly Library at Penn State Greater Allegheny will host an Amnesty International Write-A-Thon on International Human Rights Day. Participate locally in the world's largest letter writing event to take action to assure that human rights are respected and protected around the world.
This event supports the Teaching International Program's focus on Human Rights.
All campus students, faculty, staff, and members of the public are encouraged to participate. Materials, information and refreshments will be provided.
Human Rights Day was started by the United Nations in 1950 to mark the passage of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in this day in 1948 (United Nations Web Site).
EVENT WILL BE RESCHEDULED
Donald A. Brown is Associate Professor of Environmental Ethics, Science, and Law at Penn State University where he is currently teaching interdisciplinary courses on climate change and sustainable development and acting as Program Director of the Collaborative Program on the Ethical Dimensions of Climate Change whose secretariat is the Rock Ethics Institute at Penn State.Before holding these positions he was an environmental lawyer for the states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey and Program Manager for United Nations Organizations at the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of International Environmental Policy. In this position he represented the United States Environmental Protection Agency on United States delegations to the United Nations negotiating climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable development issues.
Brown has written about and lectured extensively on the ethics, politics, science, and economics of climate change issues over the last 20 years. His career interest has been the need to integrate environmental science, economics, and law in environmental policy making with ethical considerations. His latest book is American Heat, Ethical Problems with the US Response to Global Warming.
